A locked conversation opens only with each person’s own 6-digit lock PIN, and its text stays hidden until then.
- Create your lock PIN: Menu › Settings › Lock PIN › Create lock PIN. Type six digits, then again at Repeat it. If you skip this step, the lock button asks you for a PIN first.
- In the conversation, tap the lock at the top (next to the star).
- Choose when it asks: Every time, When I leave or After a time (5 min, 15 min, 30 min or 1 hour).
- If you like, switch on Hide message text, which hides it in the list, in notifications and in search.
- Tap Lock conversation.
To open it, type your PIN at Enter your PIN. To change the lock, tap the lock and then Save. To remove it, tap Remove the lock… and type your PIN.
To open locked conversations with Face ID or a fingerprint instead, switch on Menu › Settings › Lock PIN › Open locked chats with … (it is named after what your phone has) and type your lock PIN once. From then on the button Open with … appears.
