In short

WhatsApp lets a business call a customer only after the customer allows it. In a WhatsApp conversation press Call: ask them first, then call once they say yes. Or send a call button — when they tap it, the call rings in MirageCHAT.

Steps

  1. Open the conversation

Open the customer’s WhatsApp conversation and press Call at the top.

  2. Ask them to allow calls

If they haven’t allowed calls yet, add a line if you like — for example «About your booking on 14 Oct.» — and press Ask … to allow calls. They see Allow and Don’t allow in WhatsApp; the answer appears in the chat.

  3. Call

Once they allow it, press Call … with their name. The call bar opens at the bottom of the page; when they answer, you talk through your computer.

Or send a call button

Press Send a call button in the same window. The customer gets a message with a Call on WhatsApp button; when they tap it, the call rings in MirageCHAT like any call from a customer. Like any message, it goes out within 24 hours of their last message.

WhatsApp’s rules

  • One request a day, two a week to the same customer.
  • Four calls unanswered and WhatsApp takes the permission back — ask again.
  • Numbers from the United States and Canada, and from a few other countries, can’t call customers — WhatsApp’s rule. Customers can still call you, and you can still send a call button.
  • Cost: calls you make are billed by WhatsApp per minute to the WhatsApp account’s payment method. Calls from customers are free.
